DO I CONVERT CD AUDIO TO WAV OR MP3?
WHAT
IS A SOUNDFONT?
SoundFonts
are wav file samples that have been converted by a
SoundFont editor like Vienna into midi controllable instruments which
can be loaded into a soundcard like the SBLive and triggered by a sequencer.
A standard General Midi SoundFont can contain up to 127 instruments
and one drum kit.

HOW
MUCH SYSTEM MEMORY CAN BE USED FOR LOADING SOUNDFONTS IN THE SBLIVE?
You can use half of your system memory for loading SoundFonts (128mb
of System RAM = 64mb of SoundFont Cache etc.) although you can only
play a maximum of 32mb of the SoundFonts simultaneously due to limitations
with the card.

MY
SOUNDCARD SOUNDS NOISY IS THERE ANYWAY TO REDUCE
THE HISS?
This
is normally caused by all the volume levels in the mixer set to full.
Open the mixer and set your 'Wave/Direct Sound' and 'Midi' volumes to
full and mute or reduce all other volume levels you don't use.

I
LOADED A DRUMKIT SOUNDFONT IN CAKEWALK BUT I CANT ACCESS IT ON CHANNEL
10?
The
drums are probably not assigned to the 'Percussion Pool' in Vienna.
If they are not assigned to the 'Percussion Pool' then you wont be able
to
access them on channel 10. Open the SoundFont you are having trouble
with in Vienna and copy the instrument from the 'Melodic Pool', then
paste the preset to the 'Percussion Pool'. You don't have to have them
assigned to channel 10 to be able to use them, you can use the kits
on another channel instead. I find with drum kit SoundFonts it is best
to assign them to the 'Melodic Pool' and the 'Percussion Pool' this
gives you the option to use the kits on any channel you like.

HOW
DO I CONVERT CD AUDIO TO WAV OR MP3?
There
are various free utilities which can perform these tasks with varying
results. The Cdfs.Vxd driver (38kb) is a replacement
for the default Windows driver which converts CD audio tracks to Wav
files. This driver is especially useful for opening audio sample CD's
directly as wav files in a audio editor. Download the zip and read the
'Install' text.
Another
great free program is CDex
which converts CD audio to various formats including Wav and MP3. NoNags
also has loads of free programs which can convert, edit and play Wav
and MP3 files (MP3 is converted by using a codec 'COder DECoder').
Read
the 'Help Files' section on converting 'Wav to MP3' for a full tutorial
and check out the 'Software Links' section for other program links on
this subject .
